Driver Risk Assessment for Employees

Risk Assessments

from just £65 + VAT!!

Why should I as an employer bother with risk assessments for my employees?

The “clever” answer might be that you could go to jail if you don’t.  The more sensible response would be to alert you to the requirements and show you a simple and cost-effective way to comply with them

With about a third of all road accidents involving someone driving as part of his or her work, resulting in approximately 20 fatalities and 250 serious injuries weekly, you can see why the Health & Safety Executive now takes driving at work so seriously.

It is not enough to merely check an employee has a licence and that vehicles have an MOT certificate. Health & safety law relates to driving as to all other activities at work and applies equally to employees making one short journey to the post office weekly and to those driving 30,000 miles each year.  It includes the self-employed and those using their own vehicles.

Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999,  you as an employer have the legal responsibility to manage health & safety effectively - which includes driving.  In practical terms this means you need to carry out driver risk assessments to the health & safety of your employees and to others who may be affected by their activities.  These risk assessments should be carried out periodically so that they remain appropriate.  Get this wrong and you could face a charge of  Corporate Manslaughter or Corporate Killing, carrying maximum sentences of fourteen years and life respectively.

Most drivers are relatively safe most of the time and therefore present little risk to themselves, other road users or to you the employer.  However, just one mistake or moment of inattention can have extremely serious and far-reaching consequences.  In the case of a serious accident a lifetime of safe driving will count for little and you as the employer will be required to demonstrate that you have properly risk assessed the driver.   Clearly, those carrying out the risk assessment must be competent to do so and all instructors at Drivexcel have the necessary blend of expertise and experience to complete these on your behalf.

Many driver “Risk Assessment” courses also include a generous number of hours of driver development, with a fee which can be upwards of £350 (+ VAT) and which removes the employee from the workplace for a whole day - in many cases quite unnecessarily.  This can be costly and time-consuming to you the employer.  Whilst driver development is extremely worthwhile (we offer it ourselves after all!) it is not necessary to purely comply with HSE requirements in most cases.  Where glaring faults are shown during the assessment these will be drawn immediately drawn to your attention and further action discussed.  Having said all that, we do impart a host of useful tips and advanced driving techniques during the assessment.  This makes it a thoroughly interesting experience and ensures not a moment is wasted.  The feedback we receive from drivers and employers alike is incredible and, so far, 100% positive.

At Drivexcel we believe we offer the perfect solution - a straightforward, simple Risk Assessment that protects both you the employer and the employee driving as part of his or her work - whilst keeping the cost and time away from work to the absolute minimum.  Our Driver Risk Assessments take just 1.5 hours to complete and cost  £75 for a single employee, £70 each for two on the same day and just £65 each for a maximum of four on the same day (all + VAT).  A written report with recommendations is completed, allowing you to demonstrate compliance.
